The number of temporary agency workers in Italy was 264,000 reflecting an increase of +0.2% during August 2013, compared with a year ago, according to the latest figures from Ebitemp, the bilateral organisation for temporary employment representing employers’ associations and unions.
The number of hours worked was approximately 25.2 million during the month, a slight drop compared with 25.5 million hours in July. The number of hours worked per worker increased by +0.9% on an annual basis.
The unemployment rate in Italy during August was 12.2%, an increase of +0.1% from July 2013 and an increase of +1.5% compared with August 2012. Temporary employment accounted for 1.17% of the workforce in August 2013, up from 1.15% in August 2012.
Following on from speculation that the rate of decline within the Italian staffing market had slowed, the growth in August supports research from Staffing Industry Analysts that the Italian staffing industry is to return to growth in 2013, after declining last year.
