The number of temporary agency workers in Italy was 270,000 reflecting an increase of +5% during September 2013, compared with a year ago, according to the latest figures from Ebitemp, the bilateral organisation for temporary employment representing employers’ associations and unions.
The number of hours worked was approximately 25.6 million during the month, an increase of 4.1% year on year. The number of hours worked per worker increased by +2.4% on an annual basis. The unemployment rate in Italy during September was 12.5%, an increase of +0.1% from the previous month and an increase of +1.6% compared with September 2012.
Temporary employment accounted for 1.21% of the workforce in September 2013, against 1.16% in September 2012. As highlighted in our seminar last week (available to subscribers), Staffing Industry Analysts believes the market will improve and may swing to as much as 5% growth in 2014.
