Italy — Demand for PAs up by +60% in Q1 2010

31 May 2010

According to new research carried out by staffing agency Page Personnel Italy, demand for Personal Assistants (PA) was up by +60% in the first quarter of 2010 compared to the same period last year.

The so-called 'new generation PA' is a highly demanding position and covers far more than secretarial tasks. Pamela Bonavita, Director of Assistant & Office Support at Page Personnel, told Italian daily Corriere della Sera "the professional value of a PA rises with her level of operational competence. The educational requirements for a high level PA are a degree in foreign languages or university education in political science or economics."

An excellent command of the English language is an absolute must for a PA according to the research. Decent knowledge of French or German is a definite bonus.

Salary levels start at 21,000 Euro for a junior PA and rise to 29,000 Euro after three years of experience. A top level PA can earn up to 60,000 Euro. "At the higher levels of income, the PA needs to be permanently available and will have to sacrifice a few weekends", Bonavita adds.
