New research published by job portal operator infojobs.it based on interviews with 1,500 job candidates reveals that good old 'vitamin C' (i.e. contacts) is still the way to get ahead in Italy.
86% of interviewees know people who have obtained their jobs via contacts. In 2009 this figure amounted to 82%.
72% believe that they have colleagues who got their jobs because they know somebody. In 2009 this figure amounted to 66%.
49% say that their boss had 'help from above' to get to his position. This figure is up by +5% percentage points compared to the previous year.
81% of respondents know at least four people who have a job because somebody put a word in for them.
46% of respondents believe that in order to have a career you need 'help from above', up by +5% percentage points compared to the previous year and 78% believe that you cannot have a quick and easy career without somebody saying the right things about you.
On the question, however, whether the interviewees have themselves used contacts in order to get where they are, only 4% said yes. This figure has not changed compared to the previous year.
