UK-based recruiter Robert Walters (RWA: LSE) announced that they will be running two recruitment events in Australia, in an attempt to attract candidates and offset the on-going skills shortage in Ireland. The two events will be held in Melbourne between the 26 and 28 August, and in Sydney between the 2 and 5 September.
Louise Campbell, managing director at Robert Walters Ireland, commented: “We are currently experiencing an uplift in demand from our clients for top calibre individuals. There are significant shortages of skilled professionals in a number of areas. This is very positive news for a number of Irish professionals working in Australia who may be looking to return home in the near future.”
Robert Walters is primarily seeking professionals with international experience in the fields of audit, compliance, financial accounting, funds, and insurance.
Louise Campbell advised that Robert Walters is increasingly seeking professionals with specific skills, which often correspond with those that Iris professionals gain while on a gap-year holiday to Australia. “While we are holding the recruitment drives in Australia, we are predominately looking for Irish people, as most of the roles are permanent positions. We will also meet with Australians seeking temporary work.”
“Australian’s are surprised when we ask them if they’d consider going to Ireland for a job. They think there are none here,” she added.
Irish unemployment levels fell in June by -0.1% to 13.5%, however they remain above the European Union and Eurozone averages of 10.9% and 12.1%, respectively. Despite high unemployment, there remain niches in the job market with too few applicants to fill them.
