Italy-headquartered staffing firm Gi Group is looking to expand its operations in India, particularly in its temporary staffing and search and selection business. This comes after the recruitment specialist bought out the Indian recruitment process outsourcing firm Elixir Consulting in June.
Gi Group’s India CEO, Asim Handa, said in an interview with The Times of India that the firm is looking increasingly into temporary labour and overall wants to double business activities in the next three years.
“For Gi Group the core focus area is the broader temporary staffing space. We are looking at increasing our numbers. We have got a right trajectory and are growing in temporary staffing industry over the last 12 months at a brisk and healthy rate as for what we had anticipated,” Mr Handa told the paper.
Business is also holding up for Elixir Consulting, he said. “On Elixir side, we are consolidating here as well. Rather than just doing the low-end contingent work, we want to get up the value chain on how can we get into the mid-management layer and pitch there much more than what we have been doing. In staffing, we have been growing 100% year-on-year. Elixir has been pretty steady in spite of the sluggish market.”
Talking about the general staffing market, he said that the staffing industry will see “a lot of consolidation, where the larger players would get into a bind of acquiring the smaller players.”
Gi Group is the largest Italian-owned staffing agency and first entered the Indian market in 2009 through the launch of a joint venture with Elixir Consulting. In 2011 Gi saw a +45% increase in turnover which reached €1,158 million.
