Greece — Unemployment reached 10.6% in November 2009

As Eurozone ministers hold crisis talks to avert a collapse in the Greek economy, the latest Labour Force Survey published by the National Statistical Service of Greece reveals that the unemployment rate in November 2009 was 10.6% compared to 7.8% in November 2008 and 9.8% in October 2009.
 
The number of employed amounted to 4,464,230 persons while the number of unemployed amounted to 531,953 and the number of inactive to 4,286,229.

The number of employed decreased by 89,681 persons compared to November 2008 (a 2.0% rate of decrease) and by 40,870 persons compared to October 2009 (a 0.9% rate of decrease).

Unemployed rose by 146,965 persons (a 27.6% rate of increase) compared to November 2008 and increased by 40,814 persons compared to October 2009 (a 8.3% rate of increase).

Unemployment among the 15 to 24 year olds rose from 22.4% in November 2008 to 27.8% in November 2009.
