IG-Metall, the German Metal Workers Union, have today published their research report on structural changes in German temporary employment entitled "Funktionswandel von Leiharbeit." The report was carried out in collaboration with Jena University.
The research reveals that temporary employment is increasingly used as part of the corporate strategy as opposed to simply coping with personnel shortage.
The number of companies using temporary employees in such a way is still small but the report describes them as "important trend setters" for the temporary employment sector.
IG-Metall Vice-President, Detlef Wetzel, told Sueddeutsche Zeitung on the subject "temporary employment is being abused. It has to be better regulated so that temporary employees have the same rights as other employees and get the same pay, which is already the case in some companies.
The report is based on six case studies and is available free of charge in German language format.
