Germany - One in three would work beyond retirement age

08 August 2011

28% would like to work for an extra two years beyond their age of retirement, according to the latest Work Barometer for Germany published by staffing group Randstad.

33% would work for an extra two years if they received a +5% pay increase during the extra time.

Petra Timm, Spokesperson of Randstad Germany, commented "it is interesting to note in this context that the willingness to work beyond the age of retirement is not exclusively linked to financial incentives."

Despite the fact that demographic changes are forecast to have fundamental effects on the German labour market in terms of the ageing population, currently only 18% of the 810 interviewees aged 18 to 65 have noticed that more colleagues are reaching retirement age and that this has an impact on their own workload.
