New research published today by the Institute for Labour Market Research (IAB) shows that an increasing number of companies are making use of the government's professional training programmes (WeGebAU) for older employees and employees with low qualifications.
The research, carried out among 14,000 companies, reveals that 40% of companies with more than 100 employees knew about the programme in 2008. Two years earlier only 30% knew about the programme.
The lowest participation rate was among companies with less than 10 employees. Only 20% of small companies made use of the training programmes.
85% of companies, which had made use of the training programmes, judged them as useful. Two years before only 60% had positive things to say.
The majority of companies, which do not use the training programmes said that they had no need for professional training programmes. Most companies in this category employ either unqualified or extremely highly qualified personnel.
