Germany — Decline in employment slows down

According to provisional data published by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the number of persons in employment living in Germany amounted to 39.9 million in March 2010. Compared to March 2009, this was a decrease of -138,000 persons or -0.3%.

In January and February 2010, the number of persons in employment was -0.4% respectively below the previous year's level. Consequently, a slower year-on-year decrease in employment was observed in March 2010.


The number of persons in employment rose by +114,000 or +0.3% in March 2010 compared to the preceding month. Seasonally adjusted the number of persons in employment rose by +12,000 persons (+0.0%) compared to February 2010.
