The latest monthly unemployment figures published by DARES on behalf of the French National Jobcentres (Pole Emploi) show a modest unemployment rise of 3,100 or 0.1% in November 2009 compared to the previous month.
Year-on-year unemployment was up by 22.1% in November 2009 when compared to the same month last year.
Economy Minister Christine Lagarde called the small increase 'encouraging' but added "the situation on the labour market remains fragile because the worsening in employment is continuing."
Unemployment among the under 25 year olds fell by 0.9% month-on-month but unemployment among the over 50 year olds rose by 0.6% during the same period.
