France — Temporary employment up by 0.9% in November 2009

According to the latest figures published by the French Government's job centres (Pole Emploi), temporary employment has risen by 0.9% month-on-month to 540,000 in November 2009. Year-on-year temporary employment was down by -5.9% or -34,000 jobs when compared to November 2008.

In industry, temporary employment was up by 3.4% on a monthly basis, in the services sector it was up by 1.1%. In construction, temporary employment was down by -4% during the same period. In November, temporary employment was up in 15 French regions out of 22.


On an annual basis, temporary employment was up in November by 11.5% in the Franche-Comte region, up by 5.8% in Limousin, up by 3.2% Languedoc-Roussilon and up by 2.6% in Basse-Normandie.

At the other end of the spectrum were the Lorraine region and Picardie where temporary employment on an annual basis was down by -18% and -17% respectively in November 2009.
