France — Managers and freelancers stay in the labour market for longer

02 July 2010

New analysis published by Dares on behalf of the French government reveals that 75.5% of freelancers still work between the ages of 55 and 59 whilst 39.9% of freelancers continue to work between the ages of 60 and 64.

Among employees, managers also work for longer. Between the ages of 55 and 59, approximately 80% still work either in the private or the public sector. Between the ages of 60 and 64 there are more managers in the public sector still at work than in the private sector: 34% versus 22%.

Blue-collar and white-collar workers, on the other hand, tend to retire earlier. Between the ages of 60 and 64 only 10% to 16% are still at work depending on their exact profession.
