In its latest forecast for the economy (Enquete de Conjoncture de Mai) based on figures available in May 2010, the Bank of France predicts that Gross Domestic Product (GDP) will grow by +0.5% in the second quarter of 2010. GDP grew by +0.1% in Q1 2010 and by +0.5% in Q4 2009.
For the whole of 2010 the government predicts a GDP growth rate of +1.4%, which is in line with both the forecast from the International Monetary Fund (+1.5%) and the forecast from the European Union (+1.3%).
In 2009 GDP fell by -2.5% as a result of the worst recession France has experienced since World War II.
