France — Employment barometer up for the second consecutive month

11 May 2010

The latest Employment Barometer* published by generalist job site Keljob (owned by Adenclassifieds) reveals that the number of job offers advertised on 80 different job boards across France was up by +16% at the beginning of May 2010 compared to May 2009. This compares to a growth rate of 10% for April 2010 compared to the same month last year.

However, the Barometer report points out that May 2009 was the worst month of last year with negative growth of -46% compared to May 2008.

Francois Dufresne, Marketing and Communications Director of Adenclassifieds group, commented "these growth rates in two consecutive months are the first since September 2008 and they confirm that the market has started growing again."

The so-called key sectors (secteurs porteurs) account for 69% of all job offers advertised on job boards. The health and social services sector was up by +61% in May 2010 compared to May 2009. The commerce and distribution sector was up by +25% whilst the construction and property sector was up by +24%. Industry registered a much lower growth rate but was also up by +2%.

The strongest growth rates were registered in training and education (+149%), agriculture and environment (+84%), transport/logistics (+72%) and consulting (+66%).
*Based on an index of 100 in January 2003.
