France — Category A unemployment up by 0.1 % in February 2010

The latest data published by the official government job centres (Pole Emploi) reveals that the number of category A job seekers registered with the job centres in February 2010 rose by +0.1% compared to the previous month to 2,667,900. Compared to February 2009, it was up by 12.8%.

 
Registered job seekers in categories B and C amounted to 1,205,000 in February 2010. Category B was up by +0.1% compared to the previous month and up by +8.8% compared to the same month last year. Category C was up by +0.6% compared to the previous month and up by +24.4% compared to the same month last year.

Job seekers in categories A, B and C in total amounted to 3,872,900 in France and to 4,112,100 in France plus the overseas dominions.

Registered job seekers in categories D and E amounted to 552,300 in February 2010. Both these categories were up by 3.1% over the previous month.

Unemployment classification by category:
A: Unemployed
B: Work for up to 78 hours per month
C: Work for more than 78 hours per month
D: Unemployed but not looking for a job
E: Unemployed with a job offer
