France — 1.7 million new jobs this year?

According to the latest annual survey carried out by the government's official job centres (Pole Emploi), 20% of companies intend to employ at least one person this year, which would represent 1.7 million new jobs in 2010 in France and the overseas dominions.

50% of employers want to offer permanent work contracts, 24% want to offer temporary positions of more than six months. 37.5% intend to offer seasonal work contracts.


39% of intended job offers are in sales, tourism and the services sector. 12% are in care and medical care.

Employers stated that the biggest obstacles in the hiring process were candidates' lack of experience (42%), a shortage of candidates (40%), a lack of real motivation (36.4%) and insufficient qualifications (17%).
