Belgium — Temporary employment rate higher among women than men

New analysis published by the Institute for Durable Development (IDD) reveals that the total temporary employment rate among workers aged between 15 and 74 has increased from 5.4% or 150,000 workers in 1983 to 8.2% or 310,000 workers in 2009.

The total temporary employment rate, which includes both agency-facilitated and direct temporary employment contracts was below the European Union average of 13.5% in 2009.

The temporary employment rate falls with the level of education and professional training from 10.9% among poorly-qualified individuals to 7.4% among medium-qualified individuals. It rises again among highly-qualified individuals to 7.7%.

The temporary employment rate also varies by age group. It reaches 29.5% among the 15 to 24 year olds and then falls to 8.9% among the 25 to 39 year olds, falls again to 4% among the 40 to 54 year olds and then rises slightly to 4.1% among the 55+ year olds.

The temporary employment rate among women is 10.2%. Among men it is 6.6%.
