Belgium — Temporary employment picks up again

The Belgian Federation for Employment (Federgon), has published its latest Quarterly Note on temporary employment for Q4 2009.

Year-on-year, the number of hours worked by temporary employees has decreased by -14.5% compared to -22.5% in the previous quarter.


Quarter-on-quarter, the number of hours worked by temporary employees was up by +0.68% in Q4 2009, the first quarterly increase since Q1 2008.

Year-on-year, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) fell by -0.8% in Q4 2009 compared to -3.2% in the previous quarter.

Quarter-on-quarter, Q4 2009 GDP was up for the second consecutive time by +0.3%. Q3 2009 GDP was up by +0.7% compared to the previous quarter.

In a separate report Federgon notes that temporary employment in March 2010 was up by +1.81% compared to February 2010. Blue collar temporary employment was up by +3.32% in March 2010 whilst white collar temporary employment fell slightly by -0.28% during the same month.
