Belgium — Polish temporary employment agencies undercut wages by 50% to 66%

22 February 2010

Polish employment agencies are offering temporary employees to the Belgian construction industry at 50% to 66% lower pay than local Belgian temporary employment agencies, Belgian daily De Morgen, reports.

Polish temporary staffing firm NRW based in Szczecin offers temporary employees at 16 Euro per hour, which includes the salary, a working abroad bonus, travel and accommodation.

The Belgian Minister for Employment, Joelle Milquet, said "companies which offer such low rates do not comply with Belgian law."

The Belgian FGTB union agrees with the Minister by stating "it simply cannot be that these companies abide by Health and Safety and minimum salary regulation.
