A new report published by InSites Consulting on behalf of staffing agency Tempo Team (previously Vedior) reveals that the over 50 year olds are not very much appreciated at their workplaces and that their younger colleagues doubt their abilities. Both companies and workers are badly prepared for the ageing population phenomenon.
The over 50 year olds are five times less likely to get a job than their younger counterparts and 60% of employers cannot see a role for them in their companies at all. However, male over 50 year olds have a greater chance of finding employment than female over 50 year olds.
54% of employers hire over 50 year olds as temporary employees at peak business times. 74% hire them for a specific know-how and 56% hire them as mentors for younger recruits.
Philippe Melis, Manager Social Projects at Tempo Team, said "we need political measures to raise the professional activity level of the over 50 year olds, which is currently dramatically low. Efforts such as our Senior Careers Departments, which focuses on the over 50 year olds in our subsidiaries would appear to be insufficient without support from the authorities."
