A loss in public sector jobs in Australia has led to an increase in candidates looking for temporary administration and IT jobs, staffing firm Randstad said, according to Sky News Australia.
There has been a big jump in job candidates since June, which the recruiter says are also due to public sector lay-offs in in the region. So far 6,000 public servants on temporary contracts have been made redundant by the Government in Australia.
Mike Roddy from Randstad said that the number of administration and IT jobs in particular has surged. “They are in the hundreds. For example, one client received 300 applications for one administration position when normally, they receive 70 or 80,” he said.
Mr Roddy pointed out that banking and finance also offers plenty of job opportunities but there was also a “considerable” demand in the oil and gas sector.
