Movin' on up -- or -- Home is where the heart is...

As you may already be aware, Staffing Industry Analysts recently moved to new offices.

We did so partly to accommodate growth and partly because the commercial real estate bust worked in our favor, liberating a large professional space at a reasonable price.

We were all pretty giddy to see the new building.  Things had reached the point in the old place, that some of the most recent hires were crammed into sunless corners crowded by office supplies and dusty boxes of who knows what--now space and sunlight were no longer to be at a premium.

But at the distance of a month (we moved in late January) I now feel a little melancholy for the old digs, not because there was anything remarkable about the building itself--far from it--but because so much of my working life occurred under its shelter.

That was the building where Barry Asin hired me; where I learned the ropes of the staffing industry; where I met some of the brightest and most productive people of my working life; where this small team of amazing people matched survey data against government reports, conducted interviews with buyers and suppliers, divined the minutiae of 10-Ks--all under narrow time constraint--to produce the little kernels of market research that comprised our domain.  It was an exciting and challenging environment housed in that building.

Yes, I feel a little melancholy for the old place, for the memories it holds of the last five years.  But looking around at our new and more spacious quarters, and out a sunny window I might add...I am confident, that with time, I will get over it.
