2012 Contingent Buyer Survey: Who buys what type of contingent labor, and why?

  • Buyers were asked to name the skill on which they spend the most money. About half of respondents said they spend the most on IT skills, followed by industrial/logistics, engineering/design and office/clerical.
  • On average, buyers said that a fifth of their contingents were hired for seasonal needs, 41% for non-seasonal needs and 28% because a permanent worker was unavailable.
  • On average, buyers said that 69% of their contingents were agency temps, 13% independent contractors and 8% from an internal float pool.
