Zen99 shuts down, had aimed to serve gig economy workers

August 18, 2015

Zen99 will shut down Aug. 25, CEO and Co-founder Tristan Zier announced in a blog post. The San Francisco-based startup provided tax, financial-management and insurance tools to on-demand workers in the gig economy.

Zen99 referred users to Quickbooks Self Employed for finances and Stride Health for health insurance for freelancers.

Fortune reported the company, founded a year ago, raised $2.5 million in funding after graduating from startup accelerator Y Combinator.

“Thank you to our employees for their dedication, our investors for their support, and our users for allowing us the chance to help,” Zier wrote in his post. “Getting knocked down is hard, but absolutely makes you stronger. I’ll be back up after a short break, smarter and hungrier.”
