Wyoming jobless rate is lowest, Michigan highest

Wyoming posted the lowest jobless rate among all states in November at 3.2%, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Michigan recorded the highest at 9.6%.

Rhode Island reported the second-highest unemployment rate at 9.3%. And four other states posted unemployment rates of 8.0% or more, they included California (8.4%), South Carolina (8.4%), Oregon (8.1%) and Nevada (8.0%). The District of Columbia's jobless rate was also 8.0%.

Among the states with the lowest jobless rates, North Dakota and South Dakota ranked second and third at 3.3% and 3.4% respectively.

Forty-nine states and the District of Columbia reported higher unemployment rates in November than a year earlier. The rate was unchanged in only one state — Wyoming.
