World – More employees confident about finding a job in six months

The number of employees around the world who expect to find another job within six months increased during the third quarter, according to the Randstad Mobility Index. The Index rose to 110 points during Q3 2014, up from 109 in Q2 2014 and up from 109 in Q3 2013.

The Mobility Index has been increasing steadily over time, its lowest point in two years being 106 points in 2012.

In Europe, Belgium and the Netherlands reported greater mobility during Q3 2014 compared with Q2 2014. In Luxembourg, however, the index fell slightly. The Swiss index also reported a decline, falling by -6 points compared with last quarter. Employee mobility during the same period increased in Austria, but remained flat in France, the UK, and Germany.

In Scandinavia, the only country to report greater employee mobility was Sweden (+4 points) compared with last quarter, while Danish and Norwegian employees were less confident about finding another job within six months. 

Mobility in Canada and the US remained relatively flat, while the Mexican index fell by -5 points. In Chile the index rose by +7 points and the Brazilian index remained flat. In Argentina, the index dropped by -3 points from last quarter.

Strong mobility growth was reported in the New Zealand index (+7%), while mobility in Australia remained flat. Across Asia, India was the only country to report a decrease in mobility. Singapore remained flat, compared with last quarter, while mobility growth was reported in China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Japan.    

According to the Randstad Index, 24% of employees worldwide changed jobs in the last six months. The greatest number of job changes were reported in India, Malaysia, and China, In contrast, the lowest levels of job change were reported in Luxembourg, Hungary, and Belgium.

Employees in India and Sweden were the most keen to change jobs, while those in Luxembourg and Austria were the least active in looking for another job.

Employees with the greatest job satisfaction were found in Norway, while those in Japan were least satisfied with their jobs.
