World – Michael Page: Salaries remain relatively unchanged but bonuses on the rise

09 July 2014

More than half (51%) of respondents to the Michael Page 2014 Global Salary and Bonus Insight report advised that their salary did not increase at the end of 2013. This marks a slight increase from 47% in 2012. A third (29%) of Managing Directors received no salary increase last year, down from 54% in the previous year.

With regard to bonuses, 57% of respondents qualified for a bonus in 2013. The majority (54%) received a bonus that was equivalent to up to 10% of their salary. Only 4% of respondents received a bonus in excess of +100% of their annual salary.

A greater number of North American employees qualified for a bonus of up to 10% of their salary, compared with employees across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), 62% and 52%, respectively. However, an equal proportion of employees (5%) received a bonus that was the equivalent of between 50% and 100% of their annual salary. Across EMEA, 5% of employees qualified for a bonus that +100% of their annual salary, compared with only 2% of North American employees.

Bonuses showed indications of improvement across EMEA, while in North America there was evidence of a decline. A greater proportion of workers in EMEA received a higher bonus, compared with North America. Fewer employees in EMEA received a lower bonus in 2013, compared with 2012.
