Workers Take Aim at Walmart with Strikes

Walmart workers are beginning strike actions in a lead-up to Black Friday (the shopping day after Thanksgiving) citing company attempts to squelch efforts by workers speak out for better jobs, according to a group called OUR Walmart. And KPCC radio reported that a strike is taking place at warehouses in Southern California that supply Walmart stores and use contingent workers.

Walmart and staffing firms that supply its warehouses have experienced disputes with workers. Recently, a group of 20 Chicago-area workers filed a wage-and-hour lawsuit against the retailer and two staffing firms.

By now, you would think that Walmart would know that treating employees fairly works better than this. When will they ever figure out that they cannot run their stores with angry, unhappy, poorly treated employees? Some day, Walmart senior management will understand that they need help . . . from outside of Walmart. Of course, it may be too late when they finally do figure out that their system is cracking.
