West Virginia posts highest jobless rate in October

West Virginia posted the highest unemployment rate among all states in October at 6.9%, according to data released today by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. New Mexico and Nevada followed at 6.8% and 6.6% respectively.

The District of Columbia had a rate of 6.6%.

North Dakota posted the lowest unemployment rate in September at 2.8%, followed by Nebraska at 2.9%.

Thirty-two states and the District of Columbia had unemployment rate decreases from September, three states had increases, and 15 states had no change.

The national jobless rate was essentially unchanged from September at 5.0% and was 0.7 percentage point lower than in October 2014.
