Weekly jobless claims fall by 10,000

The number of U.S. initial claims for unemployment insurance fell by 10,000, or 1.7%, to 570,000 in the week ended Aug. 22 from the previous week's revised number of 580,000, the U.S. Department of Labor reported today.

The four-week moving average of claims fell 0.8% to 566,250 from the previous week's revised average of 571,000.
