July 16, 2008

Real average weekly earnings fell by 0.9% month-over-month in June, according to preliminary, seasonally adjusted data released today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. A 0.3% increase in average hourly earnings partially offset a 1.2% increase in the consumer price index for urban wage earners and clerical workers.

Average weekly earnings were $613.12 in June before seasonal adjustment and inflation, compared with $588.88 a year earlier.
