Web: GM buys assets of human cloud firm Sidecar

January 19, 2016

Automaker General Motors acquired the technology and most of the assets of the San Francisco-based human cloud ride-sharing provider Sidecar Technologies Inc., according to Bloomberg.

Sidecar ceased ride-sharing and delivery operations last month. It was a competitor to Uber, which Staffing Industry Analysts ranks as the largest online staffing firm in terms of global human cloud spend.

The deal follows General Motors' recent $500 million investment in human cloud firm Lyft, which ranked No. 6 on Staffing Industry Analysts’ list of largest human cloud firms.

Bloomberg reported GM is also bringing on board about 20 employees from the Sidecar team, including co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Jahan Khanna. Co-founder and CEO Sunil Paul is not joining GM.
