The Las Vegas metropolitan area and the Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario area in Southern California posted the highest jobless rates in April — both at 9.6 percent — among large metropolitan areas with populations of 1 million or more, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

The Oklahoma City area again posted the lowest jobless rate among all large metropolitan areas at 4.1 percent, down from 4.7 percent in March.

Among areas of all sizes, the Yuma, Ariz., and El Centro, Calif., areas recorded the highest unemployment rates in April at 30.3 percent and 24.0 percent, respectively. Midland, Texas, again registered the lowest unemployment rate in April among all U.S. metropolitan areas at 3.0 percent.
