VA starts travel nurse program

March 12, 2008

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs announced the creation of a travel nurse corps. The three-year pilot program will initially place as many as 75 nurses at VA medical centers across the country. It will be based at the Phoenix VA Health Care System. Nurses taking part will receive standard government per diem allowances including lodging, meals, and incidentals.

"This program is competitive with the private sector," said Jacqueline Jackson, travel nurse corps director at the Phoenix VA Health Care System. "VA has state-of-the-art facilities, high-tech computer systems and professional colleagues second to none."
