Utah is fastest-growing U.S. state

Utah was the fastest-growing U.S. state in the 12 months ended July 1, the U.S. Census Bureau reported today. Utah's population increased 2.5% to 2.7 million.

Arizona ranked as the second fastest-growing state with its population rising 2.3%. It was followed by Texas, North Carolina and Colorado.

Texas gained the most people in that 12-month period, 484,000. California added the second most at 379,000.

Two states lost population; they were Michigan and Rhode Island.
