Unemployment claims fall by 6,000

In the week ended Oct. 27, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial unemployment claims was 327,000, a decrease of 6,000, or 0.02%, from the previous week's revised figure of 333,000. The four-week moving average was 327,000, an increase of 1,750 form the previous week's revised average of 325,250.

In the most recent state numbers, for the week ended Oct. 20, California posted the largest increase in initial claims, up 7,027. New York was second, with an increase of 2,590. Both states cited layoffs in construction. Michigan posted the largest decrease in unemployment claims, down 4,992. The state cited fewer layoffs in the auto industry.
