Unemployed workers rejecting jobs

September 24, 2010

Seventeen percent of unemployed workers received at least one job offer since they became unemployed, but 92% rejected the offer, according to a survey by Personified, a talent consulting arm of CareerBuilder.

The No. 1 reason for rejecting the offer was insufficient pay, according to the survey. Fifty-four percent of workers who received offers said the pay was more than 25% below the salary they earned in their most recent positions.

Other factors for turning down jobs included a long commute, lower title, the position being outside a worker's field, little room for advancement and a poor hiring process.

The survey included 925 unemployed workers across the U.S. and took place between Aug. 4 and Aug. 27.
