US retailers to hire more than 725,000 seasonal workers

October 07, 2014

US retailers are expected to hire between 725,000 and 800,000 seasonal workers this holiday season, potentially more than the 768,000 they actually hired during the 2013 holiday season, the National Retail Federation announced today. Seasonal employment in 2013 had increased 14 percent over the previous holiday season.

“These holiday positions offer hundreds of thousands of people the opportunity to turn their seasonal position into a long-term career opportunity in retail,” said NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay.

The National Retail Federation expects sales in November and December (excluding autos, gas and restaurant sales) to increase 4.1 percent to $616.9 billion, higher than 2013’s actual 3.1 percent increase during that same time frame.
