US job openings flat

The number of U.S. job openings in July was flat compared to June at 4.7 million, according to seasonally adjusted numbers released today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The job openings rate — a measure of job openings compared with total employment — was also unchanged at 3.3 percent in July.

The number of hires rose 1.7 percent in July to about 4.9 million, and the number of separations edged up 0.9 percent to approximately 4.6 million.
