US job openings edge up

The number of U.S. job openings in June rose 2.0 percent from May to 4.7 million, according to seasonally adjusted numbers released today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The job openings rate — a measure of job openings compared with total employment — edged up to 3.3 percent in June from 3.2 percent in the month prior.

The number of hires rose 1.9 percent in June to about 4.8 million, and the number of separations edged up 0.4 percent to approximately 4.5 million.
