US gains 241,000 jobs in December

US private sector employment rose by 241,000 jobs in December, according to the ADP national employment report produced by Automatic Data Processing Inc. (NASD: ADP) in collaboration with Moody’s Analytics.

Small businesses added 106,000 jobs in December, according to the report. Midsize businesses added 70,000 jobs and large businesses added 66,000 jobs.

By sector, the service-providing sector added 194,000 jobs, and the goods-providing sector added 46,000 jobs.

“The job market continues to power forward,” said Mark Zandi, chief economist of Moody’s Analytics. “Businesses across all industries and sizes are adding to payrolls. At the current pace of job growth, the economy will be back to full employment by this time next year.”
