Revenue in Volt Information Sciences Inc.’s (OTCBB: VISI) staffing services segment rose approximately 4.7 percent to approximately $492 million in the company’s fiscal third quarter ended July 29, 2012, according to preliminary numbers released today. Volt posted revenue of $470 million for the same period in 2011.

The increase was primarily the result of increased contingent staffing and associate vendor employees on assignment and the recognition of previously deferred revenue, net of current period deferrals, according to the company.

On average, approximately 32,500 U.S. staffing employees were on assignment in the quarter compared to approximately 31,400 in the third quarter of 2011.

The revenue numbers are estimates due to the company’s previously announced ongoing accounting review and anticipated restatement.
