US - Report says OSHA doubled temp agency inspections

August 15, 2013

Bloomberg BNA reports that since inspectors from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration were told April 29 to pay more attention to issues involving temporary workers, the number of inspections of temporary staffing agencies has doubled compared with last year. OSHA had announced earlier this year it was toughening its stance on safety of temporary workers.

The agency also announced that a staffing firm joined its Alliance Program to improve worker safety. The firm is construction staffing firm Marek Employment Management Co. of San Antonio, Texas. “Workers must be safe, and this voluntary alliance provides temporary construction workers with much needed training, in English and Spanish, on recognizing construction hazards,” said Kelly Knighton, OSHA area director.
