The Randstad employee confidence index rebounded last month from a dip in May to reach its second-highest reading of the year. The index rose 2.0 points in June to a level of 56.8. The index measures workers’ confidence in their personal employment situation and optimism about the economic environment.

“Our index figures align with the June Consumer Confidence Index, which saw the most promising signs in five years,” said Jim Link, managing director, Randstad US. “Our index also found over a third of employees are likely to seek a new job in the next 12 months — a sign that the economy has better opportunities available in the eyes of job seekers. The recent strengthening of both the stock market and residential property values are two factors that may help build confidence of the American labor market in months to come.”

Seventy-two percent of U.S. workers said it is not likely they will lose their jobs, and 26 percent said there are more jobs available. Thirty-four percent of U.S. employees believe the economy is strengthening, up four percentage points from the first quarter of 2013.

The study, conducted online by Harris Interactive, surveyed more than 1,300 U.S. workers between June 4 and June 6, 2013.
