US – Operator of Fraud Staffing Site Gets Prison

March 26, 2012

The operator of a website called Callservice.biz — which acted as a sort of a staffing firm for identity thieves — was sentenced to almost three years in prison on Friday, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. The website provided English- and German-speaking people to identity thieves in order to pose as account holders. They were needed to counteract security measures at some banks where transactions needed to be verified by account holders over the phone.

Operator of Callservice.biz, Dimitry Naskovets, was sentenced to 33 months in prison for conspiring to commit wire fraud and credit card fraud, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Naskovets had been arrested in the Czech Republic in April 2010.

Callservice.biz helped more than 2,000 identity thieves commit more than 5,000 acts of fraud, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

“Through his website, Dimitry Naskovets served as the middleman for a network of identity thieves who used his many employees to impersonate thousands of victims in exchange for a stake in profits from the fraudulent transactions they helped facilitate,” said Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara.
