Medical Solutions today reported its acquisition of OA Nurse Travel from On Assignment Inc. (NYSE: ASGN) for $31.0 million. On Assignment had announced the sale of the division for $31.0 million in its fourth-quarter report on Friday, but it did not release the name of the buyer.

Medical Solutions, a travel nurse and allied healthcare staffing company based in Omaha, Neb., will now employ more than 1,000 traveling nurses with the acquisition.

“Medical Solutions will continue to offer the same level of customer support we have become known for, and will maintain one of the largest recruiter and support staffs in the industry,” said Christy Johnston, chief people officer at Medical Solutions. “The internal company cultures of both groups are very similar and focused on providing an outstanding customer experience.”

The acquisition adds offices in San Diego; Tupelo, Miss.; and Cincinnati.

All OA Nurse Travel staff and executives will remain with the company, said Medical Solutions COO Dale Williams. However, back office functions are not part of the purchase.

No decision on brand identity has been made yet. “There are a couple of elements that we haven’t decided yet,” said Williams. “There are some things we are still working on and hope to settle in the near future.”

Medical Solutions had ranked No. 12 on Staffing Industry Analysts’ 2012 list of largest providers of travel nursing.
