US - Italian staffing firm acquires US company

July 15, 2013

In Job, an international staffing agency based in Verona, Italy, entered the U.S. staffing market with the acquisition of New York-based The Employment Line. The transaction closed July 9 and terms were not disclosed.

The New York agency will operate as IJ NY LLC/dba: The Employment Line. The Employment Line’s president, Alan Lawrence, and founder, Marty Gargle, will remain with the firm; Sofia Lovato transferred over from In Job’s Verona headquarters to serve as director.

“This was not a sale that we needed to make. It was a sale that was wonderfully fortuitous for both In Job and us,” said Lawrence. “They were looking for a small agency in New York. They approached us because we are a small agency and we were right for them.”

The Employment Line targets office personnel and nonprofit organizations in the health, service and arts fields, among others. Its annual revenue falls in the $1.5 million to $2 million range, said Lawrence.

“We are a small agency but have been in business successfully for 18 years,” said Lawrence.

In Job operates offices throughout Europe and Asia, and recently entered the Russian market, according to Lawrence. It has plans for several additional American locations in the near future.

“They are very aggressive,” he said.

In Job ranked number 21 on Staffing Industry Analyst’s 2010 list of top generalist staffing firms in Italy.
