US – Hurricane Impacts Staffing

October 29, 2012

The American Staffing Association headquarters is closed today due to Hurricane Sandy, which has much of the mid-Atlantic region under a state of emergency. In addition, executive search firm Heidrick & Struggles International Inc. (NASD: HSII) postponed the release of its third-quarter results until Wednesday because of severe weather. It was to release results on Tuesday.

The storm also forced the closure of United States stock and options markets. The New York Stock Exchange last closed trading for weather reasons when Hurricane Gloria hit the region in 1985.

Federal government offices in Washington also closed today and could close again Tuesday. The Labor Department may delay Friday’s October employment report, Wednesday’s third-quarter employment cost index and Thursday’s third-quarter productivity and weekly jobless claims reports, although no decision has been made yet.
